Bees take Men’s and Mixed Open Titles

In a thrilling last week of Summer Touch the Black Eyed Bees finally gained revenge over arch rivals the Marvellous Mallarkeys, winning both the Mixed and Men’s Open Play-Off finals.

The Mixed Open Final went down to the wire, with the Bees winning 3 touchdowns to 2, while the Men’s was almost as close, with the Bees winning 3-1 after conceding an early score. In the Open Shield Finals, West Bridgford claimed both the Mixed and Men’s spoils, with wins over The Rats and Pilonidal Sinuses respectively.

The newly formed Ladies league was also a close affair with  The Mallarkeys beating Boots Ladies 3-1 in the Play-Off Final to claim the league title. Toothill Ladies finished a close third with Cr*p But Gorgeous and Mistresses of Mellish bringing up the rear.

In the Wednesday night Social leagues, Hamians Social claimed the Men’s title despite finishing second to Melton Foxes in the regular season. A 6-3 win on the night ensured they gained the trophy.

In the Mixed Social the league season format continued to the end, with FC Fraggle Ruck narrowly pipping the Perfect Motion Misfits to the title.

Commenting on this season’s Touch, organiser at Perfect Motion, Chris Simon said:
“This season has been our most successful yet. We’ve had 45 teams and over 600 players taking part each week, with new teams from Speedo, BGS, Radcliffe and Melton. The standard has improved once again with most leagues going down to the wire. The open mixed league finished with only one point separating the top five teams!”

Summer Touch is almost over for another year, but it’s not too late to enter the Social Festival planned for Saturday 21st August. Plans are also taking shape for an Autumn League at Lady Bay with further details expected in August.

In the meantime a big thank you to everyone for taking part and for all those that have helped make 2010 our best year yet!
